Content Engagement Strategies You Need for 2023
2022 came and went with the snap of the fingers, and what a wild ride it’s been. Working in the social media and digital marketing space all throughout the year, I witnessed some amazing, and some not-so-amazing, trends come and go.
Reflecting back on analytics and the success of my campaigns, a handful of strategies bubbled to the surface for authentically engaging with your audiences. Employ a handful of these tactics in your campaigns this year and you’ll be sure to impress your clients and peers alike!
Prioritize UGC.
In my opinion, apart from AI, the Creator Economy is the next big thing in social media and marketing (if it isn’t already). UGC has been around for a while, but we’re only recently starting to see a significant shift towards companies and brands prioritizing this form of social media marketing.
In 2023, my strategies are centered around connecting brands with creators, who then connect them to buyers. Which is why I think platforms like TikTok and Youtube are here to stay. The most recent news from Elon and Twitter further cements the importance of this strategy for me. I think this step is key for brands looking for a way not just to stay relevant, but to float right to the top.
Invest in market research.
Solid research informs solid strategy which makes for solid conversions. It’s the holy trifecta! Although you may be excited to hit the ground running and build content right away, I always recommend that my clients conduct a round of market research and competitor mapping within three months of embarking on a new campaign.
If you’re short on time and budget, not to worry! Some research phases can be completed in as little as a handful of weeks. Of course with this shortened timeline, you likely won’t have a complete picture of your opportunity and offer, but it’s something.
Drill down on your user experience.
How do people come to find your brand, website, channel or product? And what is their experience when they land on the page? Are they satisfied? If you have a clear map in mind, you can skip this step! If not, keep reading.
While UX might seem lightyears away from creating a viral Tik Tok or Tweet, I definitely consider this integration integral. As a practice UX focuses on motivation, while social media is traditionally centered around influence, but in reality they are both different sides of the same coin. By designing a deep and broad UX monitoring strategy (one that takes all channels into account), you can anticipate customer concerns and design responses to issues like poor satisfaction and low sales.
Become an expert in emerging technologies.
You might not want to hear this, but AI is here to stay.
Today, AI is used for a breathtaking spectrum of services, for everything from video caption translation, to social copywriting, to music production… even for graphic design! Instead of resisting this progress, I’m fascinated by it, and have been dedicating a good chunk of my personal time to understanding more.
The ethical concerns and debate surrounding the growth of this technology motivates me even further to learn all that I can so that I can properly advise my clients based on the type of campaign they’re seeking to activate. Publications like AI News cover everything AI news related to launches to bumps along the way as this technology takes shape.
Don’t forget your “Day 1’s”!
Moving away from all of the technical jargon, I always like to tell my clients to keep their earliest audiences in mind when creating engagement strategies. Your original supporters should be rewarded for their loyalty. And since this audience has been around from the start, you likely have the clearest picture of who this consumer or individual might be. Make sure you aren’t leaving them behind on your journey to grow!
